There has not been a greater time in history to witness the glory of God working in His church. The Spirit of God is moving across the nations and will continue to move until every nation and tongue profess His glory. Last October God moved miraculously in Cuba, filling 119 people with His spirit in a conference held in Havana. However, this was just a sign of more to come.
In January of 2008 my family and I left for the nation of Cuba for the fourth time in under a year and we were anticipating a productive trip. This trip was different from previous visits. With God’s help and miraculous power we were expecting to stay for up to three months, which would be the longest time that we’ve spent in Cuba. Our desire was to engross ourselves in Cuban culture and focus our efforts on the local churches. In total there are 15 active churches in our area of work and we wanted to visit each and spend time with each pastor, hearing their desire for revival and their vision for that local church.

Are we in a recession? Officially, that's up to a nonprofit group of economists at the National Bureau of Economic Research to decide. While their declaration is based on facts and figures, we can look around to determine whether we are already in the midst of the big "R." Gas prices are higher than ever, restaurants are not as busy, golf courses are empty, there are fewer shoppers in retail stores, travel is down, real estate values have diminished (in the Northwest), and the stock market is inconsistent.
Even as a Christian, it is easy to look around with fear and uncertainty. The first thing we want to do is react in a similar manner as our peers. However, we must keep in mind a few Biblical truths. There are no recessions in God's economy. Those of us who are citizens of the kingdom of God can prosper and live the elevated life even while a recession plays out in the secular world around us. Our blessing is not determined by the economy of our state or country. Our provision and reward is not predicated on the rise or fall of the stock market. We can enjoy prosperous living during a recession.

Acts 1:8“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…”
John 1:12“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name”
One popular concept in today’s corporate, business world is the idea of empowerment. Perhaps as you peruse the inventory of leadership and management books at your local Barnes and Noble, you too read a plethora of rhetoric dealing with employees reaching personal potential and purpose. This, in a nutshell, is empowerment. The driving philosophy behind empowerment is to inspire and propel employees to greater productivity. In theory, a company with empowered employees will outperform traditional companies where the masses punch a clock and the hierarchy of upper level management rule from their ivory tower. However, all good leaders understand that empowerment does not happen by accident. It is a process.

After spending many years in a spiritually abusive religious paradigm I found myself broken – emotionally, mentally and even physically. I had lost my identity, my passion was gone and I had begun to question my calling. Yet, these elements were not due to a spiritual attack or a satanic onslaught … they were the results of a system that allowed a few men to Lord over the masses and in a death grip of selfishness destroy all creative life which didn’t fit into the paradigm of their man-made rules and organizational bias. Anyone who dared to think outside the lines of “their” protocol or question the validity of application to culture was labeled rebellious and carnal.
